The Mission Ridge Ski Team needs your help! We need volunteers to help with our races for the upcoming 2012-2013 Race Season. As part of our Earn Your Turns program volunteers get a free basic season pass to Mission Ridge and in return those volunteers commit to helping the Mission Ridge Ski Team with 10 of the 15 days of racing that the team will be hosting at the mountain this season, primarily as gate judges and/or course crew workers. *Gate judges keep a scorecard and list which skiers, if any, don’t negotiate the course correctly (we provide training for both positions).
MRST will be holding a training clinic at their offices on Saturday, December 8th from 4pm – 5pm.
Our race schedule for the season is:
• Eigenvector NW Cup FIS Slalom – December 20th – 21st
• Stemilt Apple Cup Invitational – January 26th – 27th
• Hampton Cup – February 2nd – 3rd
• Les Schwab Western Region U21/U18 Championships – March 5th-10th
• U16 Finals – March 29th – 31st
For more information or to sign up for our Earn Your Turns Program contact Kari Johnson at 509.433.8217 or email her at email@example.com. *Participants must be able to negotiate all groomed runs at Mission Ridge to be eligible for the EYT Program. (*MSRT Team Families are not eligible for this program.)
While snow fell at Mission Ridge some of the athletes, coaches, and parents from the Mission Ridge Ski Team walked the 4 miles from the Mission Ridge Parking lot to Squilchuck Road collecting garbage the entire way. They found everything from bottles and cans to mattress’s, bed frames, and ironing boards. There was also no shortage of old tires.
The 3 hour walk was a great experience for the athletes and they all enjoyed the ability to serve. The next community service event for the Mission Ridge Ski team will be the Special Olympics at Mission Ridge March 4th, 5th, and 6th 2011. The ski team provides all of the gates, panels, timing, and safety net for the Special Olympics, as well as, the advanced course venue.
The team is looking for a community service project in May. Any suggestions?
The work party went great! We had 20 volunteers, the ASG, FIS, and J3 Athletes and coaches all provided workers as well as the BOD, parents, and Mission Ridge management. With so many people able to attend we made quick work of our projects and were off the hill by 1:00 PM.
Thanks to Jeff Sanborn, Bruce Bendickson, Mark Millette, and the crew at Sellend Construction we now have on hill gate storage at 4 key spots on the hill. We also now have a salt shack at the top of chair 3.
On Thursday Jeff, Charlie Rubin, and Mark Millette worked on fixing the timing wire that was damaged in a rock slide.
On Friday Jeff, and Ton O’Conell toughed it out in the rain to put a porch on the timing center.
On Saturday a large group of volunteers met to assemble the new gate storage units, clean out the timing center, build stairs the the TC, remove shelving from the team room, and assemble the salt shack.
Thanks everyone for all your help!!
